I got crafty!

I get email newsletters fro Better Homes and Garden and earlier this week, they sent me this link to a simple 6 pocket bag. http://www.bhg.com/crafts/sewing/accessories/six-pocket-bag/ This was just the project for me to start my crafting adventure!

Now I will admit I am pretty proud of my finished product, even though if you go to the BHG site you will see that my bag it taller or the straps are shorter, I am not sure. I know how it happened after the fact, but since I probably won't be making a bag like this again, I will hopefully apply this "learn by doing" lesson to the next project, which I already have spinning in my head. Besides cutting the fabric too long in the first step, thus having 12 inches too much fabric to beginning with, the only change I made to the directions were to add 2 extra reinforcement seams. I added a seam around the top of the pocket and the top of the bag where the lining folds in of the batting.

I have plenty of fabric left to start my next project, which I don't have directions for, but I think I can plan it out by myself. Plus, even though I said I didn't really want it, my mom gave me her old sewing machine. I don't have room for it, but at the same time it will be nice to have. But now I don't have any excues to make my mom help me with these types of things.

Hopefully the next project will turn out as good!
